Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Preview

Barcelona are justifiably massive favourites for this all-Spanish fixture and the bad news for the Madrid team is that Barca have won the last five games against them in all competitions. Atletico’s last win was a Champions League match early in 2014. Barcelona are prodigious scorers with 106 goals scored in all comps compared to 75 for Madrid. Barca have won nine of their last ten games scoring 33 goals in the process and while Atletico are 2nd in La Liga with four wins out of five they’re up against it here.

League Form Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Barcelona (home stats)  DWWWW  3.60  0.93
Atletico Madrid (away stats)  LWWWW  1.56  0.50

Picks?

It’s difficult to justify selecting anyone from Atletico Madrid but we may have to due to player limits and budgetary constraints. A spine of as many Barca players as we can afford will be the way forward when the time comes to pick a team.

Bayern Munich vs Benfica Preview

This should be an even more one-sided match than the Barca-Madrid game, pitting the German champions-elect against their Portuguese rivals. Benfica may be top of their league but it’s relatively weak and this two-leg tie will be tough proposition. Benfica impressed in their UCL win over Zenit St Petersburg and their stats look good in this competition but their route has been a relatively easy one. Bayern Munich almost slipped up in their last tie against Juventus but pulled themselves together eventually to win in extra time.

League Form Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Bayern Munich (home stats)  WWLWW  3.31  0.46
Benfica (away stats)  WWWWW  2.21  0.57

Picks?

We’ll take as many Bayern players as we can afford but as with the previous match there will be some compromise for some cheaper players, probably in midfield.
