Norwich City vs Sunderland Preview

It’s a desperate fight near the foot of the table but Norwich City are four points clear of Sunderland and just outside the relegation zone; Norwich are certainly in better form with two wins from the last three but three points on Saturday is vital. The Canaries don’t generally score more than one goal at home and last week’s 3-2 win over Newcastle United was something of an exception. Norwich very rarely keep a clean sheet at home. Sunderland have game in hand over their hosts and each game becomes more important as the remaining number dwindles. Sam Allardyce’s side have just one win in eleven to look back on and concede almost three per game on the road.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Norwich (home)  WDLDL  1.38  1.50
Sunderland (away) DDLDL  1.19  2.44

Picks?

Difficult to predict, this could be 0-0 or 3-3 – we’re inclined towards the former or at least a low scoring draw which would only help the home team. Midfielders could be cheap option here but up front Jermain Defoe from Sunderland and Dieumerci Mbokani from Norwich know where the goal is.

Man United vs Aston Villa Preview

Manchester United finally found some form in their FA Cup win at West Ham in the week and even if they are yet to be world beaters this should be an easy win against the truly appalling Aston Villa. United have won five of their last seven at home but have failed to score more than one in the last four. However that are up against a Villa side without win in seventeen away games, losing all but four. Villa concede less than one might think away from home (just oover 2 per game) but they score less than one.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Man United (home)  WWWDW  2.79 0.79
Aston Villa (away)  LDWDW  1.62  1.44

Picks?

Manchester United will have plenty of possession and keep a clean sheet so take your pick; this could be another opportunity for Marcus Rashford to make his mark up front.

Everton vs Southampton Preview

Everton’s home poor has been poor this season, theoretically costing them the possibility of a top five place in the Premier League; they’ve shipped almost two goals per game at Goodison Park and have lost the of the last four. When they do score though they generally grab more than one. Southampton are still pushing for a Europa League spot and are in good form with three wind from the last four games. Away from home they’ve won two and lost two of the last four, losing only to local rivals Bournemouth and league toppers Leicester City.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Everton (home)  LWLLW  1.81  1.75
Southampton (away)  LWLWD  0.81  0.94

Picks?

The stats suggest a draw is unlikely but it’s difficult to predict which way this game will go; we’d be inclined to avoid defenders and go instead for consistent points scorers such as Everton’s Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku along with the Saints’ Graziono Pelle.

West Bromwich Albion vs Watford Preview

These two teams occupy lower mid-table positions and both could be forgiven for letting their thoughts drift to the summer holidays; The home team are without a win in the last three, losing two but before a surprising 1-0 home defeat by Norwich had been unbeaten at home in eight. Scoring has been a struggle though and they’ve conceded more at home (1.31) than they’ve scored (1.19). Watford have lost four of the last five PL games but have won two out of four away games.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
WBA (home stats)  LWWDD  1.19  1.31
Watford (away stats)  LWLWL  1.07  1.47

Picks?

We fancy a low scoring home win or draw here so we’d be happy with WBA defenders; there may be some decent value strikers and midfielders but it’s a bit of a gamble.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Preview

This should be an all-action affair between teams who have arguably underperformed this season; for Chelsea it’s a season to write off but City still have a top four place to play for and are through to the Champions League last four. The Blues haven’t been beaten at home in domestic competition but can they keep up the motivation to overcome a City team with plenty to play for? City have been unpredictable on the road, notching up big wins and heavy defeats so this is a tricky one to predict.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Chelsea (home stats)  DLDWW  1.81  1.50
Man City (away stats)  DWDLW  1.13  0.93

Picks?

There should be goals in this game so strikers such as Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa; City keeper Joe Hart always seems to come good for us and his shot stopping means plenty of points for saves.

Newcastle United vs Swansea City Preview

Another game and another must-win for Newcastle United and this time it’s at home against Swansea City; the home team has to start picking up points and this is an ideal opportunity against a Swansea side with nothing left to play for except position. The Geordies have been beaten just once in five at home but have only scored one goal in each of the last three games. Swansea have just one win in five away from home but have shown they are capable of scoring with two in each of the last three games on the road.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Newcastle (home stats)  DLWWD  1.47  1.47
Swansea (away stats)  DLWLD  1.12  1.50

Picks?

We think there could be some goals in this game so avoid defenders and go for reliable points scorers such as Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdson and Newcastle ‘s Georginio Wijnaldum.
