Aston Villa vs Chelsea Preview

Aston Villa are now manager-less following the departure of Remi Garde and it seems unlikely that they can do anything to stop a Chelsea win in Birmingham on Saturday. Chelsea are unbeaten in 14 games in the Premier League and shouldn’t have much trouble brushing aside a Villa team on a six game losing streak, bottom of the league and conceding 1.67 goals per game at home.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Aston Villa (home stats)  LLLWL  0.73  1.67
Chelsea (away stats)  LWWLD  1.14  1.21

Picks?

Anyone from Chelsea, no-one from Aston Villa.

Arsenal vs Watford Preview

This is one of our bankers for a home win this weekend and it’s a must win for Arsenal if they are to retain any hope of a title challenge. The Gunners have won just once in four in the Premier League but should be too strong for a Watford side who’ve lost three on the bounce. Watford can take some confidence in having beaten Arsenal at home in the FA Cup a couple of weeks ago.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Arsenal (home stats) LLLDW  1.36  0.71
Watford (away stats)  WLWLW  1.14  1.29

Picks?

Arsenal will dominate possession so their midfielders are always important; they should also score more than one so bear the strikers in mind but they do concede so Arsenal defenders are not mandatory. Watford could nick the odd goal through Troy Deeney.

Bournemouth vs Manchester City Preview

Manchester City have lost four of the last six Premier League games but they are desperate to hang on to that final Champions League spot. They face a Bournemouth side just about safe from relegation and with two wins from the last two home games and just one defeat in six home and away. City are defensively strong away from home but haven’t scored in four of their last five games in all competitions; Bournemouth have scored five in their last two home games.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Bournemouth (home stats)  WWLLL  1.33  1.53
Manchester City (away stats)  DLWWL  0.93  1.00

Picks?

This is a tough pick but we don’t see a high scoring game; City should have plenty of possession so consider their midfielders and the Cherries’ Charlie Daniels always scores points from defence.

Norwich City vs Newcastle United Preview

This is one of the most interesting games of the weekend as these two teams are in dire relegation trouble; Norwich managed a vital win in their last outing at Swansea but had lost eight in ten before that. Newcastle must aim to win this match but they have managed just one point from five games and have ben struggling to score on the road.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Norwich (home stats)  DLDLL  1.27  1.47
Newcastle (away stats)  LLWLL  0.47  2.20

Picks?

There’s an argument that this may be a nil nil result and so we could pick up some cheap defenders from either of these teams. Otherwise don’t hang about here too long.

Stoke City vs Swansea City Preview

Both these teams are in reasonable form but Stoke’s strength at home should see them through here; they are still pressing for a high finish and are just four points from the Europa League spot with four wins from six in the league. For their part Swansea have won three of the last four but two of those were narrow 1 – 0 wins against Norwich City and Aston Villa at home.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Stoke City (home stats)  LWWLD  1.13  1.07
Swansea (away stats)  LWLDW  1.07  1.47

Picks?

We should see some goals in this game so steer clear of defenders from either side; Stoke City have some reliable scorers in Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Arnautovic to bear in mind.

Sunderland vs West Bromwich Albion

Sunderland need a win against West Brom to help their fight against relegation but this match looks to be a tight affair with very few goals. The stats suggest not more than one goal for either side and we would predict a nil-nil or one-one result.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Sunderland (home stats)  DWLDW  1.21  1.14
WBA (away stats)  DLWWL  0.79  1.14

There could be some cheap defenders on offer here if you fancy a goalless affair but up front Jermain Defoe is always a useful purchase for the number of shots he takes and goals he scores.

Picks?

West Ham vs Crystal Palace

West Hame are one of the teams in form at the moment and occupy 5th place in the league; Crystal Palace are a solid seven points clear of the relegation zone but on a horrendous run of results in which they have failed to win in 13 games, losing 9 of them. The extra motivation for the Hammers is that they can overhaul Manchester City into 4th place with the right results.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
West Ham (home stats)  WWWWD  1.57  1.00
Crystal Palace (away stats)  DLDLL  1.14  1.29

Picks?

West Ham’s from has seen the value of their players increase sharply but if you can afford Dmitri Payet in midfield, go for it. Mark Noble is a reliable scorer also but avoid any Palace players.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Liverpool’s aim now is to finish as high as possible in the league and they have an opportunity to measure their progress with the visit of title challengers Spurs. Spurs are defensively very strong away from home and will be looking to attack on the break against a Liverpool team who should dominate possession. If Liverpool score early there could be plenty of goals here.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Liverpool (home stats)  DWWWW  1.46  1.62
Spurs (away stats)  LWWDW  1.73  0.80

Picks?

We’re inclined towards Liverpool players here as a more reliable source of points and we’ve had joy with Paulo Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in recent weeks. Spurs’ Harry Kane is very expensive but he can come up with the goods.
