Poland vs Northern Ireland Preview

According to the FIFA rankings, Poland and Northern Ireland are closely matched but according to the bookies this is an odds-on win for the Poles, despite the Irish having a 12 game unbeaten run. We’re not entirely sure the bookies are correct here but much could depend on the fitness of NI’s top scorer Kyle Lafferty and that may be a last minute announcement which could alter the selections. Poland can score goals and have proved that throughout their qualifying campaign but the Irish know how to keep a clean sheet.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Poland  DLWWW  3.30 1.00
N. Ireland  DWWDW  1.60 0.8

Picks?

Lafferty is a budget buy at the moment so worth a pick even if he needs swapping out at the last minute; we fancy a narrow scoreline here (against the bookies best advice) so will be going for NI/Poland defenders.

Germany vs Ukraine Preview

This looks like a nailed on win for a Germany team who are one of the favourites to lift the title in the end; they are odds-on favourites for a win and evens to score more then 2.5 goals. Pre-tournament friendlies have been a bit dodgy but they should be prepared to overcome a decent Ukraine side who are unbeaten in six but only against mediocre sides (Wales excepted).

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Germany  WLWLL  2.4 0.9
Ukraine WWWWD 1.42 0.42

Picks?

Go for German players from all positions, especially a goal scoring midfielder such as Mezut Ozil; don’t go for any Ukrainians.

Turkey vs Croatia Preview

Turkey rank nine places above Croatia in the FIFA rankings but the Croatians go into this tie as significant favourites; it’s quite a tough one to call because both of these teams can look back on a number of friendly wins against relatively weak opposition in the run up to this tournament. It’s also a tough group containing Spain and the Czech Republic so a win is important to get things up and running, however we think a draw may be likely result.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Turkey  WWLWW 1.4 0.9
Croatia  WWLWW  2.0 0.5

Picks?

We’re inclined towards midfielders from either side but may need players from other positions to fill in the gaps.
