Arsenal vs Aston Villa Preview

It’s been a poor season for Arsenal but a disaster for Aston Villa and it’s difficult to see them getting anything except a hiding at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The Gunners have won three of the last four at home, conceding just one goal in the process and they average 1.5 goals per game there. Villa on the other hand have lost 16 of the last 19 away from home, drawing the other three.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Arsenal (home)  WWDWL  1.50 0.61
Aston Villa (away) LLLLL 0.72 2.06

Picks?

It should go without saying to avoid anyone from Villa but consider anyone from Arsenal as a likely inclusion. There should be a clean sheet for the home team and several goals.

Chelsea vs Leicester City Preview

There’s nothing to play for here except pride for Chelsea and champion’s enjoyment for Leicester City so predicting a result is a bit tricky. Can the Foxes really pull themselves together for one final effort or are they already in party mode? Are Chelsea remotely interested after a mediocre mid-table finish? The home team are without a win at Stamford Bridge in five games now.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Chelsea (home) DLDLD 1.72 1.61
Leicester City (away)  DWWWL 1.78 0.94

Picks?

Don’t make any of these players your first picks, only use them if there’s no other option.

Everton vs Norwich City

This is a match between a very unhappy team and an already relegated one but the stats suggest that a home win should be on the cards in what could be Roberto Martinez last game in charge of the Evertonians. It’s a tough game to predict with Everton having fallen apart in recent games against Leicester and Sunderland while Norwich will be looking forward to at least a season in the Championship and not in the best of moods.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Everton (home stats)  WLDLW 1.78 1.67
Norwich City (away stats)  LLWLL  0.72 1.89

Picks?

This could be goalless draw or a goalfest so it’s probably best to avoid it unless absolutely necessary.

Manchester United vs Bournemouth Preview

Manchester United are one of the few teams who still have something to play for on Sunday and they face a Bournemouth team who should count this season as a success despite finishing 5th from bottom. United have found some steel at home in recent months and they concede very few goals at home; however they also score very few so we could be looking at a 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Man Utd (home) DWWWD 1.33 0.44
Bournemouth (away)  LWLWD 1.17 1.67

Picks?

A lack of potential goalscoring action makes it tough to pick strikers from either side – we would go for United midfielders for the possession and defenders for the clean sheet.

Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Spurs need just a draw against relegated Newcastle United to guarantee that premier League runners-up spot and they really should be good enough to grab all three points at St. James Park. However they are missing a few important players with bans and form has certainly dipped in recent games. Can Newcastle salvage any pride here? We’re not sure.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Newcastle (home)  WDWDL 1.50 1.28
Spurs (away)  DWDWL 1.83 0.83

Picks?

Spurs should enjoy some good possession here so midfielders should be a good option but it’s difficult to predict how or where the goals will be scored. Don’t select from here unless absolutely necessary.

Southampton vs Crystal Palace Preview

It’s been a great season for the Saints and they are still pushing for a higher place in the league as they host Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon. Southampton’s last three home games have seen impressive wins and a total of ten goals against Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester City. Palace have avoided relegation but it’s not been a particularly enjoyable season and they are without a win in four away from Selhurst Park.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Southampton (home)  WWWDL 1.94 1.17
Crystal Palace (away)  LLDDW  1.06 1.33

Picks?

There should be goals for both teams in this match but more for the home team so go for Saint’s midfielders and strikers.

Stoke City vs West Ham Preview

Stoke City are without a win home or away in six games and on Sunday they face a West Ham side fighting for a Europa League spot and fresh from a dramatic win over Manchester United at the weekend. The Hammers are undefeated in seven away from home (three wins and four draws) and are up against a Stoke side with nothing but pride to play for and no home wind in four.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Stoke City (home)  DLDLW 1.11 1.28
West Ham (away)  WDDDW 1.67 1.28

Picks?

We can see a score draw or an away win here so pick your players accordingly – midfielder from West ham and strikers fro either side.

Swansea City vs Manchester City Preview

Only Manchester City have anything to play for here and it’s the very valuable prize of a top four finish ahead of their city rivals. In fact they only need a draw to achieve that but will be going for the win anyway. For their part Swansea have won their last four matches at home, conceding just one goal and will want to see the season out in style. City should have enough quality to see out at least a draw though.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Swansea City (home) WWWWL 1.06 1.06
Man City (away) LLDWD 1.28 1.06

Picks?

Stay away from defenders unless it’s an emergency – go for City midfielders for possession and strikers from either side.

Watford vs Sunderland Preview

This could be an odd match – Watford are now manager-less and Sunderland will be celebrating another narrow escape from relegation. Our feeling is that Watford may have very little appetite for this game and may succumb to a Sunderland team still on a high after that comprehensive defeat of Everton. None of this is based on stats though,

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Watford (home) WDLLD 1.00 0.94
Sunderland (away)  DWDDL 1.28 2.22

Picks?

Jermain Defoe is always the goto guy for Sunderland but we may also look at Sunderland defenders in terms of a clean sheet.

West Bromwich Albion vs Liverpool Preview

This is another match with nothing except pride to play for and hopefully these two teams will play out an entertaining match in the Midlands sun. If there’s going to be a winner surely Liverpool will be too strong for WBA, although their recent away form isn;t up to much.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
WBA (home)
Liverpool (away)

Picks?

Liverpool’s midfielders should pick up a few points but don’t bother with any WBA players.
