FC Dallas vs Vancouver Whitecaps Preview

FC Dallas currently occupy top spot in the Western Conference while the Vancouver Whitecaps are bobbing around in mid-table, eleven points shy of their opponents. Dallas are very strong at home and yet to be beaten at the Toyota Stadium this season; their last five games there have seen them score 12 goals and concede just two which makes it look like a tough trip for a Vancouver side who’ve failed to score in their last two away games.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
FC Dallas WDWWW 1.89 0.78
Vancouver  LWWLW 1.25 0.88

Picks?

Go for Dallas players in all positions with particular emphasis on defence and attack; don’t pick Vancouver players.

Houston Dynamo vs San Jose Earthquakes Preview

This is a Western Conference bottom-of-the-table clash between two teams needing a confidence booster for the rest of the season; Houston are in the deepest trouble with just nineteen points, seven short of San Jose in 8th place. However Houston are decent at home with a five game unbeaten run and five clean sheets and this will be a tough trip for a San Jose team without a win away from home in ten league games so far this season.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Houston WWDWD 1.56 0.89
San Jose DLDLD 0.90 1.70

Picks?

Houston may be rock bottom but they know how to keep a clean sheet so go for their defenders.

Philadelphia Union vs Real Salt Lake Preview

Philadelphia are third in the Eastern Conference and they host Real Salt Lake of the Western Conference and the home team will be looking for a win against a side who have lost the last two away games 2-0. Philadelphia are also strong at home with just one defeat so far this season and they score lots of goals – an average of 2.27 per game at the Talen Energy Stadium.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Philly DWLWW 2.27 1.27
Salt Lake LLWLW 1.55 2.09

Picks?

We fancy plenty of goals from the home team so concentrate on Philadelphia midfielders and strikers.

D. C. United vs Montreal Impact Preview

This is an all-Eastern Conference affair as the Canadians make the trip south of the border; Montreal are having a decent season up in fourth place but are struggling for victories away from home. However they’ve only lost one on their travels in the last seven games so should make this trip with some confidence. In recent games United have tended to either win or lose at home 2-0 so predicting their performances is a bit tricky.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
D. C. United WLWLW 1.33 1.00
Montreal DDDLD 1.30 1.50

Picks?

We fancy United to grab a win here but it’s an unpredictable match so it might be better to avoid any players from this fixture.

Chicago Fire vs New York Red Bulls Preview

Chicago Fire are bottom of the EC and host New York Red Bulls who could go top of the league with a win here; however Chicago are actually quite strong at home (awful away) and have not lost any of the last five games at Toyota Park, winning three, drawing two and conceding just two. the bad news is they haven’t scored more than one goal in seven games at home. The Red Bulls are poor away from home and have drawn two and lost two since their 7-0 drubbing of NYC.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Chicago WWDWD 1.11 0.89
New York DLDLW 1.18 1.64

Picks?

We fancy another narrow win for the Fire but we’re not hugely confident – if you need players from this fixture go for Chicago defenders.

Toronto FC vs Columbus Crew Preview

This is another Eastern Conference match up featuring an improving Toronto side against a Columbus side heading in the opposite direction; the home team are unbeaten in six games at BMO field and have conceded just three goals in that time; they were struggling to score until last week’s 4-1 over DC United. Columbus Crew have lost five of their last six away games and although they can generally score, they concede far too many – 1.67 per game on the road.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Toronto WWDWD 1.50 0.88
Columbus LLLDL 0.78 1.67

Picks?

This should be a regulation win and a clean sheet for Toronto so go for their players from any position.

Orlando FC vs New England Revolution Preview

Once more we’re looking at an Eastern Conference match between two mid-table teams but as usual in the MLS it’s the home team with the advantage; Orlando are unbeaten at home this season but the obvious complaint is that they’ve drawn too many games. New England are poor away from home and should struggle to break down an organised home defence.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Orlando DWDDW 1.90 1.40
New England DLLWL 1.20 2.20

Picks?

Anyone from Orlando, perhaps even the tea lady in what should be a relatively straightforward home win.
