Liverpool vs Villareal Preview

Villlareal take a one nil lead into this match although Liverpool will probably feel a draw was a fairer result after a decent performance in Spain. What the score does mean is that the Reds will approach this match with their customary attacking zeal and we should certainly see some goals. This competition is also Liverpool’s only remaining chance of silverware this season so they have every reason to fling everything at Villareal. The Spaniards domestic season is also pretty much finished – they are safe in 4th spot and will want to finish the job at Anfield. However they struggle to score on the road so their defence will need to be solid.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Liverpool (home) DWWWD  1.76 1.24
Villareal (away)  WLLWW  1.00  1.17

Picks?

Liverpool should dominate possession here so their midfielders will be important; we think Liverpool will score at least one goal so look for their strikers also to make an impact. We wouldn’t normally pick their defenders but Villareal’s poor scoring record on the road means there could be some value here.

Sevilla vs Shakhtar Donetsk Preview

A 2-2 draw in the first leg means that Sevilla are solid favourites to progress to the final to meet the winner of the other tie. Sevilla are very strong at home, always score and average just over two goals per game. They face a Shakhtar team who have struggled on the road in recent domestic games but do know how to score – in fact they have only failed to score in one of their nine Europa League games away from home this season.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Sevilla (home) WDWLW 2.06 0.94
Shakhtar (away)  DDDWW 3.17 1.42

Picks?

We should see some goals here and ultimately a home win so Sevilla players are the first pick but Shakhtar strikers may also offer some value.
