Austria vs Hungary Preview

Austria are odds-on favourites for the victory here but we don’t think it will be quite as straightforward as the bookies seem to think; we think Austria will win but  it will be a narrow one.  The Austrians qualified easily from a  weak group but have lost three of five friendly matches, only beating Albania and Malta on the way to France. Hungary qualified from an arguable tougher group and may be better prepared for this opening match.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Austria  LWLWL 2.2 0.5
Hungary  LDDWW 1.17 0.83

Picks?

We’re going for a narrow victory to nil so Austrian players from any position are the thing; go for Hungarian midfielders/strikers if you need to fill in the gaps.

Portugal vs Iceland Preview

There should be no doubt about the result here – Portugal may be surprise package in this tournament and will have no problem turning over Iceland. They are odds-on favourites and breezed through their qualifying group with eight wins from ten games after a patchy start. To progress to the last stages Ronaldo will have to improve his scoring rate (five in the qualifiers) but there’s no doubting his quality. Iceland will be delighted with anything other than defeat here but the stats suggest they will lose by at least two goals.

Form All Games Last 5  Average Goals Scored  Average Goals Conceded
Portugal WLWWL 1.38 0.62
Iceland  WLWLL 1.70 0.6

Picks?

Go for Portugal players from any position but include an Icelandic midfielder to fill up the gaps.
