Every day we bring you what we think are some sensible selection options based on today’s upcoming matches; we’re not going to promise that these are guaranteed winners because if we could do that we’d all be millionaires by now. These players are all solid picks based on recent stats and their next opponents so check them out.

After the usual avalanche of Christmas and New Year matches we are faced with a wait until Tuesday to pick a lineup and even then only from the two matches shown below. This entry is for Mondogoal’s Global Freeroll:

  • Genoa vs Sampdoria
  • Stoke City vs Liverpool (Capital One Cup Semi-Final)

Our Pick (4-3-3)

Goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano Sampdoria £5.9m
Defender Niklas Moisander Sampdoria £7.4m
Defender Glen Johnson Stoke City £8.7m
Defender Dejan Lovren Liverpool £8.3m
Defender Cristian Ansaldi Genoa £8.5m
Midfielder Tomas Rincon Genoa £6.1m
Midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri Stoke City £7.6m
Midfielder Adam Lallana Liverpool £8.2m
Forward Marko Arnautovic Stoke City £7.5m
Forward Christian Benteke Liverpool £7.2m
Forward Eder Sampdoria £10.0m
Total Price – £85,400,000

Defence

In what must be one of the cheapest lineups we’ve used, two Sampdoria players occupy our defence; it’s the local derby against Genoa but the home team have lost four in a row and have not scored in three. We’re hedging our bets for the other three positions with Glen Johnson (Stoke City) and Dejan Lovren (Liverpool) making up the numbers in what could be a very intense affair alongside Genoa’s Cristian Ansaldi.

Midfield

Adam Lallana should be in the Liverpool squad against Stoke as the Reds have a number of unfit/injured players currently and we like the look of Genoa’s Tomas Rincon – a consistent points scorer this season despite his side’s poor form. Stoke’s Zherdan Shaqiri also knows how to grab Fantasy League points from midfield.

Forwards

The hefty frame of Christian Benteke will surely be in Liverpool’s attack against Stoke and we also like the look of Stoke’s Marko Arnautovic beside him. Our most expensive player is Sampdoria’s Eder who could potentially be worth his £10m price tag.
