icon_soccerAlthough Fantasy Sports derive largely from US leisure activities over on this side of the pond we’d prefer to concentrate our efforts on the global game – football. At least until we’ve got a grip on how all those other sports work anyway. We have years of experience of traditional fantasy football games which are of course transferable to the new websites.

This is all good because it means we can sign up to one of the new sites, dive straight in and start playing immediately. The benefit of Fantasy Sports is that whenever there are top flight matches being played, competition can be entered and cash prizes won.

It’s this ability to play on a daly basis which makes Fantasy Sports so exciting and enticing – spend a couple of quid, use the very simple interface to pick a team and watch as the results (and hopefully the prizes) roll in. Lose out and you can just start again the next day.

On any given matchday (usually where there are at least two games being played) you will find a range of competitions available from your Website’s dashboard. You can filter the types you would like to enter by a range of factors including entry fee, leagues of a particular country and length of competition. There really is something for everyone here and of course Saturday is generally the busiest day of the week. However domestic midweek matches and European games mean you can find a gaming opportunity available on most days.

While a traditional football team will have eleven players you will find that different websites use different numbers of players for simplicity. Mondogoal actually is eleven but Draftkings is usually eight in the following order:

  • Goalkeeper
  • Defender
  • Defender
  • Midfielder
  • Midfielder
  • Forward
  • Forward
  • Flexible

Fantasy Football Scoring

Scoring is reasonably complex for a simple game and below you can see Mondogoal’s scoring criteria:

Picking a team tends to be simpler than the old methods and the user interface tends to put the old guard to shame; it’s quick, easy and fun.

The image below is a screen grab from Mondogoal.com, one of our favourites and it displays the first few tournaments available on a particular Saturday. On this one weekend, Mondogoal has twenty one pages of competitions available to enter – almost 400 different opportunities.
