Athletic Bilbao vs Sevilla Preview
This is an all-Spanish tie between two teams currently sitting in 6th and 7th places in the league respectively; they are level on points and in fact there’s very little to separate them in any other regard over this two-legged fixture. Both teams have solid home records but Sevilla are notably poor on the road.
Form All Games Last 5 | Average Goals Scored | Average Goals Conceded
Athletic Bilbao (home) | DWWWD | 1.93 | 0.93 |
Sevilla (away) | LDDLL | 0.67 | 1.40 |
Picks?
Bilbao should be strong favourites for this first leg considering Sevilla’s away form so look at players in any position from the home team although defenders should be approached with caution as Bilbao rarely keep a clean sheet.
Borussia Dortmund vs Liverpool Preview
Liverpool are the last English interest and face a tough tie away at Dortmund; the Germans overcame a youthful Spurs side with relative ease but this should be a closer affair. Dortmund will start as strong favourites for this match and the tie and we think they will be the team to progress to the semi-finals. They are still in with a chance of overhauling Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga and will look forward to welcoming Jurgen Klopp back to the Westfalenstadion.
Form All Games Last 5 | Average Goals Scored | Average Goals Conceded
Dortmund (home) | WWWDW | 2.79 | 0.79 |
Liverpool (away) | LDWDW | 1.62 | 1.44 |
Picks?
Dortmund are very strong at home and Liverpool will struggle to score; we anticipate a narrow-ish win for the home team. Dortmund defenders are a priority but we would also look out for value upfield players from the home team.
Sporting Braga vs Shakhtar Donetsk Preview
These are two of the weaker teams remaining in the competition but that means there could be some goalscoring points available from this match; Donetsk are very strong domestically and have had impressive results against Schalke 04 and Anderlecht in previous rounds but they face a decent Braga side who don’t concede many at home.
Form All Games Last 5 | Average Goals Scored | Average Goals Conceded
Braga (home) | WWWDD | 2.62 | 0.77 |
Donetsk (away) | WWLWW | 3.40 | 1.30 |
Picks?
This could be a goal fest if the Ukrainians bring their shooting boots so it might be wise to steer clear of defenders from either team; strikers are what we want from these two teams and midfielders from Braga for their ball possession.
Villareal vs Sparta Prague Preview
Villlareal are the third Spanish team left in this tournament, they’re fourth in their own league and face Sparta Prague. The Czech team are second in their domestic league and on a four game winning streak in an admittedly weak competition. Villareal are strong favourites for the first leg win and on good form at home – this should be a regulation home win.
Form All Games Last 5 | Average Goals Scored | Average Goals Conceded
Villareal (home stats) | WWLWW | 3.31 | 0.46 |
Sparta Prague (away stats) | WWWWW | 2.21 | 0.57 |
Picks?
Sparta Prague can score so we are inclined to avoid Villareal defenders but go for home midfielders and strikers instead in anticipation of a home win.
