On Tuesday it’s the 2nd round of Champions League matches and there are two massive games making for one or two tricky picks:

  • Juventus vs Bayern Munich
  • Arsenal vs Barcelona

Here’s Our Pick:

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon Juventus £10.3m
Defender Patrice Evra Juventus £8.7m
Defender Rafinha Bayern £8.9m
Defender Javier Mascherano Barcelona £9.6m
Midfielder Arturo Vidal Bayern £8.7m
Midfielder Sergi Roberto Barcelona £7.2m
Midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Arsenal £7.1m
Midfielder Francis Coquelin Arsenal £5.6m
Midfield Stefano Sturaro Juventus £5.7m
Forward Lionel Messi Barcelona £21.7m
Forward Alvaro Morata Juventus £5.9m

Arsenal look like they’ve got their work cut out against Barcelona, probably the best team in Europe on current form; Barca are odds on to win at The Emirates Stadium and will dominate possession against the Gunners.

Juventus vs Bayern Munich should be a more evenly matched affair and we’ve picked fairly heavily in favour of the Italians. All our choices are made with the budget in mind and the desire to get Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez into the team.

We are looking to spread the risk in defence so we have the two Juventus players – Gianluigi Buffon in goal behind Patrice Evra – alongside Bayern’s Rafinha and Barca’s Javier Mascherano.

We’ve picked a five man midfield which saves some money for the front two and we’ve been able to select several players who look like a bargain, assuming they play. We have two Arsenal players – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Francis Coquelin, Arturo Vidal from Bayern, Sergi Roberto from Barcelona and Stefano Sturaro from Juventus.

All this penny-pinching allows us to pick Barca’s Lionel Messi up front and we’ve set him up with Juve’s Alvaro Morata; Morata has featured regularly for Juventus recently and should be worth a few points.
