Every day we bring you what we think are some sensible selection options based on today’s upcoming matches; we’re not going to promise that these are guaranteed winners because if we could do that we’d all be millionaires by now. These players are all solid picks based on recent stats and their next opponents so check them out.
There are eight Champions League matches to pick from this evening and there are some interesting ties to look forward to:
- Dinamo Zagreb vs Bayern Munich
- KAA Gent vs Zenit St Petersburg
- Valencia vs Lyon
- Bayer Leverkusen vs Barcelona
- Dynamo Kiev vs Maccabi Tel Aviv
- Chelsea vs FC Porto
- Olympiakos vs Arsenal
- Roma vs BATE Borisov
Our Pick
Goalkeeper | Oleksandr Shovkovskiy | Dynamo Kiev | £9.1m |
Defender | Yevhen Khacheridi | Dynamo Kiev | £9.4m |
Defender | Aleksandar Dragovic | Dynamo Kiev | £8.7m |
Defender | Kostas Manolas | Roma | £6.8m |
Midfielder | Willian | Chelsea | £11.7m |
Midfielder | Oleg Shatov | Zenit St Petersburg | £10.4m |
Midfielder | Ivan Rakatic | Barcelona | £9.1m |
Midfielder | Cesc Fabregas | Chelsea | £9.6m |
Forward | Edin Djeko | Roma | £10.6m |
Forward | Diego Costa | Chelsea | £6.9m |
Forward | Derlis Gonzalez | Dynamo Kiev | £6.5m |
We wouldn’t normally load our team with four Dynamo Kiev players but the circumstances seem right this evening; Dynamo are at home against a Maccabi Tel Aviv side who have lost all four of their matches, scored one goal and conceded fifteen. A win combined with a non-draw between Chelsea and Porto will see the Ukrainians through.
We’re backing Chelsea to win that match at home against Porto – they’ve been a little better in the Champions League than in the Premier League and both Willian and Cesc Febregas know how to score points from midfield. We’ve also taken an arguably risky punt on Diego Costa but he is cheap.
Kostas Manolas and Edin Djeko from Roma are playing in a side which must win against BATE Borisov to be sure of reaching the knockout stage and the line up is completed by Oleg Shatov (Zenit) and Ivan Rakatic (Barcelona) in midfield.
