It’s an all Spanish affair tonight as we make our selections from La Liga and enter Mondogoal’s Thursday Freeroll:

  • Granada vs Sporting Gijon
  • Espanyol vs Real Betis
  • Rayo Vallecano vs Barcelona

Here’s Our Pick:

Goalkeeper Andres Fernandez Granada £3.5m
Defender Miguel Lopes Granada £7.0m
Defender Jordi Alba Barcelona £11.1m
Defender Alvaro Gonzalez Espanyol £6.4m
Midfielder Ivan Rakatic Barcelona £8.4m
Midfielder Marco Asensio Espanyol £7.5m
Midfielder Pape Diop Espanyol £3.7m
Midfielder Petros Real Betis £5.7m
Forward Lionel Messi Barcelona £21.2m
Forward Luis Suarez Barcelona £18.6m
Forward Youssef El-Arabi Granada £6.6m

Barcelona visit Real Vallecano and the league leaders have won nine league games on the trot, scoring 29 goals in the process; Vallecano are unbeaten in 7 but have drawn the last three matches 2 – 2 so there should be some goals in this game.

Espanyol host Real Betis in a lower mid-table clash; the home side have won their last two matches to pull away from the relegation zone while Betis have drawn the last three.

Granada vs Sporting Gijon is a real bottom-of-the-table affair with both sides in poor form Granada can point to a win int their last match as a possible turnaround in fortunes.

When Barcelona are playing the trick is to try and include as many of the superstars as possible while still leaving enough money for a decent team elsewhere; it hasn’t been too difficult here because of the poor form of the remaining teams.

We fancy Granada to keep a clean sheet against Sporting Gijon so we’re saving some money with Andres Fernandez in goal behind Miguel Lopez; Barcelona’s Jordi Albi and Espanyol’s Alvaro Gonzalez occupy the remaining spaces.

Our four man midfield contains just one Barca player – Ivan Rakatic – plus two from Espanyol – Marco Asensio and Pape Diop – and the  Real Betis’ Petros. We expect Espanyol to have plenty of possession against Betis.

We’ve managed to squeeze Barca’s Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez into the team and they are accompanied by Granada’s capable Youssef El-Arabi.
